True Colors
What’s in your head? Right now – what are you singing, thinking, feeling? Why?
The other day we were sitting at the dinner table, and I suddenly blurt out, “Why do I have Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” stuck in my mind?” This is not a common song for me, and I didn’t remember anyone in my house singing it out loud…Then, just as I finished asking the question, my wife and I both looked on the counter at her recent library book selection, True Colors. The book and the song are unrelated, and as I thought a little more, I realized that when I came home, I simply noticed the book. Nothing more. No questions about it. My wife didn’t even see me seeing it. I just walked by, noticed it and continued on. An hour or two later we were finishing dinner when I asked the question about the song in my head.
Wow! How powerful our mind is! I never even consciously recognized the song or related it from the book title, but some guy in my subconscious made the connection between the book title and ordered the song for my background listening pleasure. Unfortunately, my lyric memory is highly limited as I generally end up repeating one line of the songs chosen by this guy – over and over again, often for hours!
Why do I bring this up? Remember the saying, “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil”? Whatever we see, hear, feel, experience – regardless of our conscious awareness – goes in our mind and influences our thinking, which eventually influences our actions and thereby our results.
So, if you don’t have what you want in the big rocks of your life – your career, your marriage, your health, etc., ask this critical question: “Is what I am exposed to – what I see, what I hear (this includes what I say out load (speaking into existence)) reflective of what I want or what I have?” Really think on this. What a difference it can really make!
“…I see your true colors, shining through; I see your true colors, and that’s why…”
Enjoy your music selection!
